Problem encountered#
You recently changed the DNS of your domain name so that it points to our hosting servers but you still access your old site, you get a DNS error or you have just ordered hosting with a new domain that is not working.
Cause#
The DNS were changed too recently or you have a DNS cache on your computer.
Solution#
You have just pointed your domain to our DNS#
DNS propagation can take several hours. In general, you need to wait an average of 4 hours after a DNS change for it to take full effect.
Your domain has just been created#
When a domain name is created, we recommend waiting an average of 4 to 6 hours so that it is properly propagated across global DNS servers.
Your domain has been pointing to our DNS for more than 4 hours#
You can try flushing your DNS cache to speed up the propagation process. To do this, depending on your OS, you need to perform the following steps:
On Windows
- Press the Windows + R keys at the same time and type
**cmd**in the Run window - In the command prompt window, type the command
ipconfig /flushdns
On MacOS
- Open the Launchpad and search for the Terminal application
- Type the command
**sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder** - Enter your password when the console asks for it
The problem persists despite flushing the DNS cache#
As a last resort, you can replace the DNS of your computer with public DNS servers. We can recommend the public DNS resolvers offered by Cloudflare and the Apnic.
On Windows
- Right-click the network icon in your taskbar and click Open Network and Internet settings
- In the Change your network settings section, click Change adapter options
- Finally, right-click the active network adapter and select Properties from the dropdown list
- Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to configure your IPv4 DNS, then click the Properties button
- In the new window, check the box Use the following DNS server addresses, enter 1.1.1.1 as Preferred DNS server and 1.0.0.1 as Alternate DNS server
- Confirm by clicking OK
- Then click Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) to configure your IPv6 DNS, then click the Properties button
- In the new window, check the box Use the following DNS server addresses, enter 2606:4700:4700::1111 as Preferred DNS server and 2606:4700:4700::1001 as Alternate DNS server
- Confirm by clicking OK
- Restart your browser so that this change is properly taken into account
On MacOS
- Open the Launchpad and search for the System Preferences application
- Go to the Network tab and select your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter, which appears as Connected
- Click the Advanced... button, then go to the DNS tab
- In the DNS Servers column, click the + button and enter 1.1.1.1
- Click the + button again and enter 1.0.0.1
- Click the + button again and enter 2606:4700:4700::1111
- Click the + button again and enter 2606:4700:4700::1001
- Finally, click the OK button, then Apply
